ONE LIFE (2023) 12A (DRAMA)

The true story of Sir Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, a young London broker who visited
Prague in December 1938. He found families who had fled the rise of the Nazis in
Germany and Austria, living in desperate conditions with little or no shelter and
food, and under threat of Nazi invasion. How many children could he and the team
rescue before the borders closed? Fifty years later, Nicky is still blaming himself
for not doing more. It’s not until a live BBC television show, ‘That’s Life’, surprises
him by introducing him to some surviving children – now adults – that he finally

ANATOMY OF A FALL (2023) 15 (DRAMA/THRILLER)

When her husband Samuel is mysteriously found dead in the snow below their secluded
chalet, Sandra becomes the main suspect when the police begin to question whether
he fell or was pushed. The trial soon becomes not just an investigation, but a gripping

THE COLOR PURPLE (2023) 12A (MUSICAL)

Billing itself as “a bold new take on the beloved classic”, this is Alice Walker’s novel
reinterpreted as a musical. In 1909 Celie, a young black American girl, is given away
in marriage by her abusive father to a local farmer, Albert, who treats her cruelly.
Deliverance comes in the unexpected form of Albert’s mistress Shug Avery, a jazz

HAMLET (2024) 12A (DRAMA)

In this unique age-, colour- and gender-blind production, which re-imagines
Shakespeare’s timeless story of revenge as a modern psychological thriller, Ian
McKellen reprises his lead role as Hamlet, and co-stars with the stage cast of the 2021
Theatre Royal Windsor production of play, including Frances Barber, Jonathan Hyde,
Jenny Seagrove, Steven Berkoff and Francesca Annis. Directed by Sean Mathias, the
movie is shot at the Theatre Royal Windsor, and utilises nearly every room of the
theatre to transform it into Elsinore Castle, from basement dungeon to roof-top

THE HOLDOVERS (2023) 15 (COMEDY/DRAMA)

With no family and nowhere to go over the Christmas holidays in 1970, unpopular
classics teacher Paul Hunham (Giamatti) is stuck at school to supervise Angus, a
bright teenager whose bad behaviour always threatens to get him expelled.
Joining Paul and Angus is head cook Mary (Oscar-winner Randolph) – an African
American woman whose own son was recently lost in Vietnam. These three
shipwrecked people form an unlikely Christmas family, sharing comic

NEXT GOAL WINS (2023) 12A

From Taika Waititi, who directed the wonderful Hunt for the Wilderpeople, comes
this story of the American Samoa soccer team, who suffered the worst loss in
World Cup history, losing to Australia 31-0 in 2001. With the 2014 World Cup
approaching, the team recruits a down on his luck, maverick coach (Fassbender)

WICKED LITTLE LETTERS (2023) 15 (CRIME/COMEDY)

A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a dark, absurd scandal in this
riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger-than-fiction true story, Wicked Little
Letters follows two neighbours: deeply-conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia
Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and
fellow residents start to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious
profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters
prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women, led
by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan), begin to investigate the crime
themselves, they suspect that something is amiss and Rose might not be the

In modern-day Helsinki, two lonely souls in search of love meet by chance in a
karaoke bar. However, their path to happiness is beset by obstacles – from lost

THE LONGEST DAY (1962) PG (WAR/DRAMA)

The retelling of June 6, 1944, from the perspectives of the Germans, the U.S.,
Britain, and the Free French. Marshall Erwin Rommel, touring the defences being
established as part of the Reich’s Atlantic Wall, notes to his officers that when the
Allied invasion comes they must be stopped on the beach. “For the Allies as well

POOR THINGS (2023) 18 (DRAMA/COMEDY)

Based on the novel by Alasdair Gray, itself a riff on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein,
and set in Victorian Glasgow, this is the story of Bella Baxter (Stone), who comes
into being when the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr Godwin Baxter (Dafoe)
implants a baby’s brain into a corpse and then reanimates it. Under Baxter’s
protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, she
runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a
whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times,

THE TASTE OF THINGS (2023) 12A (HISTORICAL DRAMA/ROMANCE)

The relationship between Eugénie, an esteemed cook, and Dodin, the gourmet she
has been working for over the last 20 years. Growing fonder of one another, their
bond turns into a romance and gives rise to delicious dishes that impress even the
world’s most illustrious chefs. When Dodin is faced with Eugénie’s reluctance to
